Whenever God wants to accomplish His purposes on the earth, He first speaks to a man. God spoke to a man by the name of Sun Kyu Yu in 1974 to plant a church comprised of first-generation Korean immigrants and Korean/American bicultural families in the Hampton Roads region. This was no small task during an era when only a handful of such churches existed in America. Late Reverend Sun Kyu Yu and his beloved wife Hyung Sook (affectionately called “Yu samonim”) responded to the call in faith and began to prayer as they pioneered the work of planting a self-sustaining immigrant church. Through much blood, sweat, and tears of the founding pastor and his successors, we are standing firmly on their shoulders as we look into the future.
